Lightning Policy

UpdatedWednesday November 12, 2014 byFranklin Little league.

At the first sighting of lightning or the sound of thunder, the game is suspended. Play will NOT resume until 30 minutes after the last lighting bolt or sound of thunder.  The 30-minute delay matches the NCAA's lightning policy for all outdoor collegiate sports and is also the policy the National Weather Service advises in their lightning materials for coaches and sports officials.

The umpires have the responsibility to suspend and resume play because of the weather. Managers and coaches are not to pressure an umpire into resuming play too early. For safety's sake, wait it out even if it starts to look nicer. Remember, lightning can travel 10-15 miles from a storm, even when you're standing under blue skies.
